Uki is the name of a magical creature from Tahiti. By day, she’s an ordinary unicorn with a beautiful golden horn and the gift of flight. At night, her tail becomes a sparkling silver rope that lets her climb to reach the stars. Let your child take flight with this simple DIY project!

WHAT YOU NEED

Elastic cord

Scissors

Gemstones or sequins

Pipe cleaners

Pliers

Hot glue gun and hot glue sticks

Step 1: You can choose any color for your Uki, but we recommend using a color that contrasts with her horn. For example, if she has a blue horn, use turquoise yarn. Cut the elastic cord in half to make two pieces of equal length. Step 2: Begin by making three knots on one side of the necklace, spacing them evenly apart from each other. If you’re using gemstones or sequins, these will be the last knot you put on the yarn. When you’ve made three knots on one side of the string, tie another knot at the end of that side and then go back to the first knot and make one more knot before tying off again at that first knot. When you have completed this step, you should have three loops on one side of your yarn. Repeat this step with all three loops until there are nine loops total on each side of your yarn. Step 3: Use the pipe cleaner to create a small loop near the end of all nine loops on both sides of your yarn before tying off at those loops with either a second piece of elastic cord or another piece of yarn. To finish off this project, use hot glue to attach a gemstone or sequin to any loop near where you tied off when making it into a loop as well
